Just got back from watching this, and visually it's absolutely stunning - and that's just in the 2D version I was watching! Note to Mr Bay and Mr Bruckheimer (and dare I say, Mr Lucas and Mr Spielberg too), now THAT is how you spend a movie cgi budget - cgi that actually compliments the story and not just there to serve as eye candy! Story wise, nothing too original or groundbreaking, similar to Dances With Wolves perhaps, but it worked well in the sci-fi setting and the 160 mins or so just flew by.
Plenty of full on video game type action which was offset with the more slower paced sequences which didn't take anything away at all from the film, pretty balanced. Effects wise, the fully cgi-rendered film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within comes to mind with the precise motion capture (probably more but can't think of any just now), but the level of detail and movement, even the tiniest, is so lifelike you could be in the jungle and watching proper actors moving and not ones generated by a computer.
For sci-fi films, this is the benchmark that all now have to follow, and the same goes for visual effects. The bar just got raised!
