After
visiting the Birmingham clubbing scene on a weekly basis, and being
completely blown away with it all, I returned to the local nightlife
fed up with the lack of decent dance music, so decided that a change
was needed and unfortunately needed to take matters into my own hands,
and so the Residentclubber.co.uk nights were born.
The
events first appeared on 21st December 2002 at Pacific Rim on Bedford
Street, next to Rio's Nightclub in Leamington Spa, under the name of
"Trancefusion" (later shortened to ‘Fusion’), as its weekly
Saturday night playing a fusion of upfront dance music that only the
big city superclubs were playing at the time and ran for around seven
months. In that time Fusion still managed to attract some of the best
DJ talent at the time including amongst others; Amber D (Tidy Trax), AJ Gibson (Godskitchen), Jon O’Bir (Godskitchen), Andy Bagguley (Passion), Hinsley (Polysexual), Sophie Sugar and a lot more.
With
the residency ending at Pacific Rim in July 2003, and after a short
stint in the basement room at Kelsey’s, it wasn’t until October 2004
that Fusion once again resurfaced. This time appearing at Stresa Bar on
Regent Street and rather than getting in the bigger players (although
we did have Neil Navarra (Miss Moneypenny's), Chris Turner (Godskitchen) and Vicki Devine
(Judgement Sunday, Ibiza) all play for Fusion), we were more focussed
on giving the cream of the best in up and coming DJ’s a chance to prove
that they can rock the dancefloor, just as much as the bigger name
DJ's. This was by far our best residency night, and ran from 2004 until
2006, almost up until Stresa Bar was sold.
Since
then, Residentclubber.co.uk has had events playing on and off in
various venues around Leamington Spa, most notably in the VIP Room in
Evolve Nightclub (and one off specials in the main and front rooms),
plus short stints in The Willoughby, The White Horse (both pre current
refurb), Mumbai Bluu and The Slug And Lettuce, plus a one off night in
Ocean Bar - with our last event a one off special in the front room in
Evolve Nightclub in June 2008.
Each
night featured the best in upfront dance music with an underground
edge, offering a mix of funky house, uplifting trance, funk, breaks,
hard dance and retro club classics depending on the venue, all played
by the best up and coming DJ's and exclusive special guest DJ's.
And
now flash forward to 2010, and Residentclubber.co.uk once again returns
to the local club scene at Spayce, formerly known as Kelly’s on Court
Street. Spayce offers us the opportunity to start again from where we
left off with a new monthly residency.
It
all comes down to this; No attitude, just damn fine tunes, where the
music comes first and everything else follows second. Simple
things. But they make all the difference.
